From coast to inland: Bay of Plenty to Rotorua

The night in Tairua was wet, as was the driving to Rotorua. I made a coffee stop at the Common Ground Café in Katikati, where I’ve truly had one of the best cuppas ever.  

The Town

Once I reached Rotorua, it was dry for long enough to explore the town on foot. “Colourful” was the word that first came to mind when strolling along Tutanekai Street towards Lake Rotorua. The Eat Streat (sic!) seems to be the hub to go to for sustenance. The board walk at the lakeshore was not too busy. In the giant playground, however, there were lots of children playing. What a splendid location, right at the lake!

The place has a distinct smell in the air, namely that of sulfur from the numerous hot springs in the area. We are in the geothermal loop, after all.
