Off to the South Island
The Interislander ferry sailed me to the South Island today. It was a smooth journey from Wellington to Picton through the Cook Strait. However, when disembarking the rain set in. My original plan was to take the scenic route from Picton to Havelock via the Queen Charlotte Drive, a winding coastal road that offers panoramic views of the Marlborough Sounds’ bays, coves, and forest-covered hills. There are numerous lookouts with stunning views of turquoise waters and lush landscapes. Usually. But not today.
Thus I took the land route, which lead through acres upon acres of vinyards, not unlike the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, just flat.
