Day 61 – Sunday, October 20

Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway and Seal Colony

I woke up at daybreak to a cloudless sky. Without hesitation I headed to the lookout I was at yesterday evening. I wanted to see the Kaikoura Range in its full glory in the morning sun. The views from the water’s edge at wharf where equally unbeatable.

This was the kind of weather I was pining for in the rainy west of the South Island. So I donned sun glasses, sun hat, and hiking boots and went on the Peninsula Walkway, which included a visit to the resident seal and bird colonies. I saw Fur Seals, Silver Gulls, shags, Stickybeaks, Common Chaffinches, skylarks. The flora was equally varied and colourful. A very happy four-hour outing for me!
