Monday: Cold, rainy. A warm breakfast in Waipu revived me in the morning and was the start of a day of rest.
Tuesday: On the Road Again – southbound
After a stormy night with heavy rain, I got ready for a longer drive south to the Coromandel Peninsula. Sadly, more rain on the way. Nonetheless, the skyline of Auckland that I could glimpse through the water drops when approaching the city was as impressive as Toronto’s. There were some strong wind gusts when I passed Harbour Bridge. Luckily I wasn’t blown off.
After Auckland, the water came down in such downpours that I needed to stop at the wayside a couple of times to wait out the brunt of it. At my destination I made good use of 2 minutes of dry weather to unload my stuff from the car. My first action in my new abode: turn the heating on! The stormy weather continued through the night.
