Luggage ready for my next flight, I had a few hours left in Auckland. I spent them in style at the New Zealand Maritime Museum. Our guide was an older gentleman called Gotfried, of Irish descent. In a bit more than an hour he gave an excellent and passionate overview of the exhibits. I learned more about New Zealand’s strong bond with the sea, from ancient Polynesian navigation to America’s Cup victories. Gotfried’s accounts made the displayed historic boats and immigrant stories come alive. I’m so glad I didn’t miss this experience!
Then I took the ferry back to the Wynyard Quarter, and off I went to the airport, destination Vancouver, Canada.
