The Coromandel Loop
No longer hike today, many trails were closed or advised against being used because of unsafe conditions of the terrain: falling rocks, debris, erosion. Though it didn’t rain as much as earlier in the week, there were intermittent showers and windy conditions, especially along the sea shore.
I decided on doing the Coromandel Loop nonetheless. It took me up and down a number of steep and winding passes that afforded majestic vistas of shore and seascapes. No wonder tourists and townies (Aucklanders, above all) flock to this peninsula! Eye candy at its finest. I stopped at a number of places and beaches along the way – Whitianga, Kuaotunu, Coromandel, Tapu, Thames. My lungs were deeply enjoying the fresh saline sea air.
