Lake Tekapo to Christchurch
The previous day was unbeatable. The clement weather was much appreciated. I needed those rays of sun and the extra 5 degrees of warmth. Therefore I headed north in search of warmer climes in Christchurch.
Mount Dobson, Mount Sibbald, and Mount Cook around Lake Tekapo wore their cloud hats in the morning. It was to be a grey day from the start, dry first, wet thereafter. My route through Burkes Pass lead into the Canterbury Plains. Rather than taking busy State Highway 1 closer to the east coast, I opted for the “Inland Scenic Route 72”. Sadly, the rain thwarted much of the scenery promise. However, when I reached the Rakaia Gorge Bridges, the rain stopped for about an hour, right in time for a walk along the gorge. A welcome break from the driving!
