We decided to start the day on the beach, hopeful to see a spectacular sunrise. The cloud cover, however, was too dense and too low for any sunny spectacle. Nonetheless, we were not the only ones at the beach at 7:20. Dog walkers and shore enthusiasts like us braved the overcast 10ºC air, some surfers even did so in the 10ºC water.
Exploring Tofino
After a delicious breakfast we went exploring into Tofino itself. We reconned where we had to be for the boat trip to the Hot Springs (ahousadventures.com/) and where to get our lunch (savaryislandpiecompany.ca/) the next morning. At the wharf three otters happily frolicked on the wooden jetty. Near the main crossing we spent some time in the House of Himwitsa Native Art Gallery before going for coffee and cinnamon buns at the Common Loaf Bake Shop.
The Tonquin Trail introduced us to Tofino’s rugged coastline, led us to sandy Tonquin Beach and, through temperate rainforest, to a lookout over Clayoquot Sound.
